This is shocking. A killer whale doing what it does… KILLING things. Blah, blah, blah, it was ‘domesticated’ and a ‘show whale’ – Not its not, it’s a wild fucking animal that kills things. Next thing you know they’ll have put this one down too… menace to society. Even though we’re the ones exploiting these animals for our monetary gain and ignorant human consumption. If I happen to (god forbid) spawn little cretins some day I’m dragging their asses to Alaska to go whale watching and doorbell ditch Sarah Palin, not Sea World. I can imagine after years of being poked and prodded and feed dead things when I liked to eat live things I would eventually just snap, apparently Tilly (said killing machine) was on the same page. Tragic? Yes. surprising? No. Wild animals are wild.
Like when people were up in arms about a tiger attack at the zoo in San Fransisco, when the teens were provoking the escaped tiger by yelling and allegedly throwing things at her. Is it just me or is it common sense to NOT throw things to piss of a 350 pound Siberian Tiger? I feel sorry for the kid’s parents, that their son was an idiot. I feel very sorry for the Tiger who was shot in the head and killed.
Or the lady featured on Oprah who got her face ripped off by a chipamzee (google chimp attacks, its NOT pretty *eeesh!*). Granted it was her neighbors chimp, and they shouldn’t have had the damn thing anyway. Not only does it have the ability to exert much more force than a human, it has opposable thumbs!!! What the fuck were you thinking!?
There are a lucky few that happen to get away unscathed, either by an amazing connection with said animal or just by sheer luck and probably the ability to run/swim away very very fast. Example one – The two men who raised a lion cub, Christian, in their home in London, but as he got bigger they realised they didn’t have the ability nor the means to care for him and found a way to reintroduce him back into his natural habitat rather than keeping him as a trophy “pet”. Or the guy who free dives with Tiger Sharks (He actually has a resting heart rate of only 30 beats per minute so he can hold is breath for over 6 minutes – quite a lucky break for someone who’s an avid diver and shark researcher). So far he is still alive and has befriended a Tiger Shark named Dolores. Neat!
Christian the Lion Vid: This actually does that whole tug on your heart strings thing, very cute.
While clearly I’m not speaking on behalf of the Killer Whale since I don’t speak Orca or another animal for that matter, and I’m not going on some animal rights activism tirade, it just brings up all the other instances of ‘animal misbehavior’ that we as humans bring on to ourselves on a lot of levels. Darwinism. Everything else in the animal kingdom knows better than to fuck with something that can kill it, except us. Then were off on some Napoleonic rampage to prove that regardless of our size we have the ability to control everything around us. This is mother natures way of saying “Fuck you, you’re wrong, you can’t and you don’t”.
