Martha Cooper Book Launch

Posted: May 16th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Art, Events, Graffiti, Photography, Urban | No Comments »

This weekend was the launch of Martha Coopers new book “Name Tagging” in NYC. A prolific photojournalist from Baltimore, MD who has been documenting the proliferation of Graffiti throughout the East Coast (mainly New York) since the 1970′s and has some amazing works to show for it. Historical too, depending on how you view the art (yes, I said it, fuck you, it’s art).

I’d imagine the event went amazingly, seeing as it was sponsored by Obey & Stella too, who doesn’t like to quote A Street Car Named Desire, when ordering a beer?! Undoubtedly a lot of heads came to be a part of it too. I’ll report back with reviews, photos, etc. as soon as I can get my hands on them.

UP THERE from Jon on Vimeo.

Found by someone that I’m very fond of & very fortunate to know: A beautiful short documentary on real advertisement painters. The Album Leaf is amazing music as well. I high encourage anyone who doesn’t know to find out immediately. Much love.

Ink Artist: Gabriel Moreno

Posted: April 15th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Art | No Comments »

Some dope illustrations from Spain based Gabriel Moreno. A thoughtful combination of layered mixed media with a bold and sparing use of colour to definitely make a visual impact.

I can’t imagine the patience it would take for the completing this detail oriented production. Something that is not a virtue of mine on ANY level, even though I do give it an earnest effort at times. I’m Just simply more of the instant gratification type of person, for whatever that’s worth.

Don’t forget to check out his personal portfolio site too.

Upcycled Tire Sculptures

Ji Yong Ho creates sculptures out of old tires, creepy and very cool! I have neither the dedication or patience to create something that is undoubtedly quite labor intensive, so much respect to him for the idea and execution of them. I wonder if they float….

Interview With Erica Flannes

Came across this interview with Erica Flannes, a punky, arty tattooed pixie-like darling, on the Juxtapoz website… Really cool interview, and it was interesting to hear another individual explain their thought process with art and just overall attitudes with in a nature very similar to mine. And now all I can think about is how badly I want my tattoos. The first portion of the interview is on the site somewhere, I’ll get to in eventually…

I’ve been seeing posts of Marc Lopes Da Cunha‘s (from Zeutch) art for a few weeks now, and since I absolutely dig it, figured I might as well jump on the bandwagon too. Reminds me of my visit to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History last summer. Dead mammals FTW!
